J. Kemper Will and Lee E. Miller Selected to the Colorado Super Lawyers List

Greenwood Village, CO – May 29, 2009 - Burns, Figa & Will, P.C. recently announced that J. Kemper Will and Lee E. Miller have been selected to the Colorado Super Lawyers list. The Super Lawyer list consists of the top five percent of attorneys in each state, as chosen by their peers and through independent research of the magazine.

The objective of the Super Lawyer selection process is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource to assist attorneys and sophisticated consumers in the search for legal counsel. The selection process begins with a survey in which attorneys are asked to nominate the best lawyers they have personally observed in action. Additional names are added to the candidate pool through searches of legal databases, online sources, and in-person meetings. The background and experience of each candidate is then researched for evidence of peer recognition and professional achievement. After grouping the candidates by their primary areas of practice, those with the highest point totals in each category are selected as Super Lawyers.

“We are honored to have J. Kemper Will and Lee Miller on the Colorado Super Lawyer list. The fact that they were chosen by their peers is a testimony to their expertise and achievement,” said D. Sean Velarde, Managing Partner, Burns, Figa & Will, P.C.

J. Kemper Will heads the environmental group of Burns, Figa & Will. He began his environmental practice over 30 years ago, spending his initial years with the EPA in Washington, D.C. and Denver. He has been in private practice since 1979, focusing on environmental law and litigation, contaminated property investigations and property assessments. He has represented hundreds of parties regarding contaminated properties: property transactions, mergers and acquisitions, compliance actions, voluntary cleanup actions and Brownfields matters. Mr. Will received an environmental achievement award from the U.S. EPA in 2004. More recently, Mr. Will has been involved in urban renewal and development projects.

Lee E. Miller devotes his practice to water law, natural resources and environmental law. He represents western natural resource users, particularly agricultural and municipal water providers, before state and federal agencies, Congress and state legislatures, and in state and federal courts. Mr. Miller’s practice ranges from participating in negotiations on an interstate water compact to handling simple administrative appeals.

Mr. Miller has served as the chief of the water rights unit in the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. In this position, Mr. Miller supervised water rights litigation for Colorado and represented the state on various water policy boards. Mr. Miller is a frequent speaker at water and environmental law seminars, as well as before natural resource users groups.
